Program overview
This year, the Victoria Foundation is refreshing the Collaboration Grant Stream to better support deeper cross-sector collaboration as a pathway to systems-level change. Informed by feedback from grantees, independent research and examples from other communities, the redesigned program will pair funding with capacity-building supports to better reflect the different stages of collaboration development.
We are currently developing a phased program model with clearer funding thresholds, timelines and indicators of progression. During this transition, current Collaboration Stream grant recipients will be invited to apply for funding to support their ongoing work following a conversation with a member of our team. Funding decisions are expected by the end of 2026. There will be no open call for Collaboration Grant applications in fall 2026.
Capacity for collaboration starts inside organizations. By shifting mindsets and internal practices, organizations build the foundation to work more effectively together. And when organizations work together towards shared goals, they can have far greater impact than when working alone.
As organizations begin to take collective action, they affect changes to systems and address the status quo in ways that transform places and peoples’ lives. This shift leads to greater impact on some of the community’s most pressing issues.
The purpose of the Collaboration Grant Stream is to strengthen the non-profit sector’s collaboration muscles. The program prioritizes collaboratives of three or more organizations that are based and operating within the capital region, are led by or serve equity-deserving groups and demonstrate strong financial need. It funds collaborative projects, initiatives and ‘backbone’ operations for groups that are working across a range of cause areas. This includes the environment, racial equity, food security, housing, health, homelessness, gender equality, the arts, sports and recreation and more!
